Ray Edwin Hoyt Jr. 67, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on December 26th, 2023 following a long illness. He was born March 13th, 1956, in Houlton, Maine, the son of Ray E. Hoyt Sr. and Dean (Bulley) Darrah. Born and raised in Houlton, he attended Houlton schools while growing up in the area. Ray enrolled in the Marines in 1974-78 returning to Houlton after serving, then moved to the New York /Bennington area in the late 80’s where he resided until his death. Ray worked as a manufacturing technician in Bennington and the surrounding area for many years, most recently Mack Molding and Quadra Tech in Arlington, Vt. He was a Patriots fan for many years. He enjoyed horse shoes and playing pool with friends and family, enjoying this time with them. Ray enjoyed playing cards with his mother and family, enjoying the change of pace from life and the stimulating conversations that would take place. It was a time family would gather, young and old, share fond memories, enjoy friendly banter and share a meal, a memory which he held close. He enjoyed movies and music, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” being one of his favorites. Survivors include his former wife Rhonda (Merrow) Hoyt of White Creek, NY; brother, Fred Hanlon (Bonnie) of Granville, NY and Helen Hanlon, Tamworth, NH. Mother of the children, Angie Hoyt, daughter, Kara Lynn Jackins, sons Ray E Hoyt 3rd, Charles Hezekiah Hoyt. 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and roommate Debbie Cussman, Bennington, Vt. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Lauradean (Hanlon) Lee and grandson Tyler. Following Ray's wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. A celebration of life gathering will be held at the family's convenience.
