Mrs. Rachel J. Mason, widow of Anson Coleman Mason, a resident of Carpenter Hill Road, Pownal, VT died peacefully on Wednesday, August 31st at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Pownal, VT February 24, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Loren and Jennie (Hicks) Fowler. She received her education in Pownal and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School class of 1936.
Mr. & Mrs. Mason were married in Pownal on November 16, 1938. Mr. Mason died April 15, 1991.
Mrs. Mason retired in 1991 from the Town of Pownal where she served for thirty-nine years as Town Clerk and Treasurer. She was also an Auditor in Pownal and on the Board of Civil Authority.
Mrs. Mason was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. She was a 4-H volunteer and served as a Trustee of Camp Ondawa Association. Mrs. Mason also was a volunteer at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. A Bennington Grange member for eighty years, she held many Grange offices in her years as a member.
Survivors include four children and their spouses, David and Paula Mason, Doris and Samuel Cottrell all of Pownal, Connie and Charles Krawczyk of North Hoosick, NY , and Terri Clark of Oakland, ME; Eight grandchildren, Denee Facto (Donald), Marie Walk (Lance), Kelli Mason, Julie Mills, Charles and Coleman Krawczyk, Reggie and Taylor Clark; five great grandsons, Samuel Walk, Tyson and Corby Facto, Keenan and Cooper Mills; One great granddaughter, Joselyn Walk ; Two great, great grandsons, Owen and Cadin Facto, and a brother Robert Fowler. She was pre deceased by a daughter in 1951 Joyce Mason, a grandson Kenneth Cottrell and a sister Mary Hoy.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington officiating.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, Friday, September 2, 2016 from 4:00 " 7:00 PM.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
