Phyllis Edith Ruggles (Cross)

SHAFTSBURY- Phyllis Cross Ruggles, 88, a resident of Bouplon Hollow Road in North Bennington, passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2022 following a long illness.

Born September 21st, 1933, at home on Town Line Road in Shaftsbury, she was the daughter of the late Perle M. and Irene H. (Gulley) Cross. She received her education in Hoosick Falls and Graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School. Phyllis later went on to earn her bachelor's degree from St. Joseph Business School. On November 8, 1952, she married the late Howard S. Ruggles Sr. in Cambridge, New York. Howard Sr. passed away on November 4th, 1989

In her professional life, she became a Bookkeeper, and remained in business for nearly 50 years. She traveled to many different local businesses and kept their finances in order, including; Bennington College, Cushman Colonial Furniture, Cross Oil, Adams Clothes Shop, and Agway Energy Products. She retired In December of 2000.

Her hobbies included collecting thimbles, appreciating lighthouses and the ocean, being an Avon representative for 25 years, and walking in the wind. She also enjoyed time spent with very special friends; Kathy and Keith Tatro, Emily Crofut, and Larry Darling. Her greatest joy and love has always been her four sons and daughter; Glenn (Sandy) Ruggles, Ken (Vicky) Ruggles, Brenda Davis, Timothy and Howard Ruggles.

Besides her children, Phyllis is survived by her sisters Teresa Livingston, and Dorie Lucas. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings; Virginia Green, Edward "Sonny" Cross, and Perle Cross. As well as a granddaughter, Marie Becker.

Phyllis is to be entombed at the Park Lawn Cemetery Vault in Bennington, VT to await her burial in the spring at Rose Wood Cemetery in White Creek, NY. The obituary will be updated when a date for the graveside services has been decided.
