Philip H. Bahan, 82, of Bennington, VT, passed away at SVMC on November 25, 2023, following a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Joy (Bisson) Bahan. He was born in Bennington, VT in 1941 to L. Horton Bahan and Frances Wager Bahan. He was a graduate of Arlington Memorial High School, Arlington, VT and St. Joseph’s Business College, Bennington, VT. For many years, Phil was the Controller of Hale Company, East Arlington, VT and thereafter worked as an accountant at Porta-Brace, North Bennington, VT from which he retired in 2011. Post-retirement, Phil worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Loomis Auto, Bennington, VT. At age ten, Phil wanted a bicycle and got his first job, a paper route, to pay for it. He was a member of BPOE, Bennington, VT, the Order of DeMolay and Red Mountain Lodge #63 F and AM (Masons), Arlington, VT, and the Arlington Lion’s Club, Arlington, VT. Phil also served as Chairman of the Select Board of the Town of Sunderland, VT. Phil loved to hunt, especially in Tinmouth, VT with the Loomis family. In earlier years, he went to his “happy place,” a family hunting camp in Bacon Hollow, Sunderland, VT. Phil had three children, daughters, Michele Bahan Lampron (Victor), Wieska Halbur (Fritter), and Sarah Elizabeth Bahan (deceased). He is survived by four stepsons, Bryce R. Wade (Rebecca), Wesley A. Wade (Meghan), William Elwell (Carrie), and Jamie Elwell (Malynda), and by the sisters, Sally Perkins, Patricia Masi (John), and Wendy Bahan. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda Smith. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored. Phil was married previously to the late Lois Elwell. Phil’s wishes were that he be cremated and have only graveside services at his family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Arlington, VT, on December 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM. There will be no calling hours.
