Peter Stokes Buckley

Peter Stokes Buckley January 25, 1955 - May 11, 2023 Peter Stokes Buckley of Bennington, VT passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on May 11. He was 68 years old. Peter was born and raised in Old Bennington, Vermont. He graduated Mt. Anthony High School in 1975 and opened his first Automaster Foreign Car Repair in Bennington in 1977. This was the first of many shops. His last garage in Bennington was sold to Hemmings Motor News. Later in his career, Peter lived in Dorset and had a shop in Manchester before returning to Bennington where he managed the Citgo station. Pete enjoyed competing in tractor pulls every year and proudly took home many blue ribbons, to his competitors’ dismay. Peter was a loyal friend and a beloved member of his community. Known affectionately to many as Uncle Buck, Pete was resourceful, capable, proud, and always willing to help a friend or stranger in need. Peter loved fixing problems as much as he loved fixing cars. He was a surrogate father to his nieces, nephew, stepchildren and foster children. Peter loved tractors, his dogs, country music, cooking, teasing, and being available in a crisis. He had a big heart and a great sense of humor. Peter is survived by his brothers Garry, David, and Jonathan. His sister in law, Amy Buckley. His nieces, nephew and grand-nephew, Lydia, Caroline, Elliot, and Phineas. His daughter, Ambur. His step daughters, Alicia, Abbi, and Alex. His four doggies, Wyatt, Oliver, Lucy, and Copper. Predeceased by his parents Frances Kingsbury Littlefield and Thomas Garry Buckley, his sister Katherine, dozens of doggies, and many close friends. Graveside services for Peter will be held on Sunday, May 21st at the Old First Congregational Church Cemetery in Old Bennington at 2PM. Following the graveside service a celebration of Peter's life will be held at the Henry House 1338 Murphy Rd, North Bennington, VT at 3PM.
