Pendennis W. Reed Jr.

Pendennis White Reed Jr. was born in Summit, New Jersey on November 9, 1934, to Carol {Copperthwaite} Reed and Pendennis White Reed. He attended the Pingry School, graduated from the Lawrenceville School and Middlebury College.

He entered the USNaval Service in 1957, serving as the Base News reporter in both Pensacola,Florida, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. After discharge from theNavy, he joined the family business, Bishop Manufacturing, and worked his way up to Vice President.

Following his love for the outdoors, he moved to Vermont in 1969, starting an accounting practice. After that, he was able to purchase and develop an outdoor recreation business called Quiet Sports.

After marrying Barbara Cutchins Smith on October 3, 1988, he moved to Dorset, Vermont, where he became a member of Zion Episcopal Church, the Dorset Field Club and the Ekwanok Country Club. He taught skiing at Bromley for seven years, enjoyed skiing in the West, was a knowledgable bird watcher, loved boats and rowing his racing shell in regattas, was a good golfer and an enthusiastic fisherman. he was one of the founders of the Dorset Citizens for Responsible growth and was the forerunner to the Audubon Trail at the Ekwanok Country Club. He had a terrific sense of humor and could make almost anyone laugh!

He leaves his wife Barbara, three sons, Pen 111 of Grand Cayman BWI, Kent (and Tracey) of Atlanta ,Georgia, and Christopher of Manchester Center. He also leaves a step-son,Charles S.Smith 111 of Dorset, two step-daughters, Alexandra Langstaff (andPeter) of Dorset and Stephanie Breed (Bill) of Dorset. He had three grandsons, Ryan Reed, Stockton Reed and Knox Reed and two step-granddaughters, Eliza Breed and Julia Breed.

Pen died on July 8 from ALS, (Lou Gehrig's disease), a service-related disease for which there is no known treatment or cure.

The funeral service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester, VT at 4 pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.

Memorial gifts may be given in his name to Zion Episcopal Church, Manchester Center,VT. and Mountain Valley Medical Center, Peru, VT.
