NORMAN TIFFT OBITUARY
POWNAL, VERMONT
Norman Leon Tifft, age 79, a resident of Sunflower Street in Pownal, Vermont died on Monday, December 7, 2020 at his home unexpectedly.
He was born in Bennington, Vermont on December 15, 1940, and was the son of the late Thomas Lyman and (Dolly Stone) Tifft. He received his education in local schools. Following school he served in Army during the Korean War and the Viet Nam War, and retired after a twenty year military career. He married the former Mary Traylor on November 8, 1964. While living in Carthage, New York, following his military service, Norman worked as a tire changer at the Sam's Club in Watertown, New York. After moving back to Bennington, he was employed at various mills in town which included; Bennington Brush, and National Hanger in North Bennington. He also worked at Charlie Wells Gun Shop on Northside Drive.
Norman loved playing computer games, hunting and fishing, and was a collector of "Rare Treasurers" that he found at flea markets and tag and garage sales. He especially loved spending time with all the grandchildren. Norman is a member of the VFW Post in Bennington.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: Charles Peterson of Massachusetts, Norma (Kevin) Russell of Pownal, Vermont, Norman (Deborah) Tifft of Pownal, Vermont, David (Rebecca Robinson) Tifft of Syracuse, New York, Roger ( Christine) Tifft of Bennington, VT, Leona (Shawn) Robitille of Watertown, New York and Annie (Mike) Hatch of Mansville, New York. He leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He has two sisters: Dorothy of Bennington and Shirley of Nevada. Norman is predeceased by four sisters and five brothers.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 1PM until 3PM. Services will start at 3PM. Due to Covid " 19 Protocols, everyone is required to wear a mask while inside the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the support of the family, through the funeral home.
