Norma J. Raetz (Woodell)

Norma J. Raetz, 85, widow of Otto E. Raetz a resident of Ladd Road, Pownal, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington on December 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Adelbert and Mabel (Smith) Woodell. Norma received her education in the Bennington Schools.

Norma and Otto were married August 6, 1949 in Bennington. Otto died October 4, 2013.

Survivors include four sons, Edward (Linda) Raetz of Pownal, Joel (Sharon) Raetz of North Bennington, Timothy (Kathy) Raetz of Niantic Connecticut, and Terrance (Tracy) Raetz of Bennington; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Longtin of Bennington, and Joan Niles of Hoosick Falls, New York and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norma was predeceased by a sister Lorraine Kelly and a brother John Febily.

Norma was an avid horse woman with her late husband Otto, together they owned and rode their horses on their property for years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her home and flowers. She was active in town politics for many years as well as being a town lister.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Norma Raetz will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Saturday September 23, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
