Noreen A. Dunn, age 69, a resident of Fuller Road East in Bennington, died on Monday, September 6, 2021, at Albany Medical Center. She fought right to the last beat of her heart to return to her home and family as a three-time cancer survivor before succumbing to her fourth cancer diagnosis of leukemia.
Noreen was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1951 to Robert O'Rourke and Irmgard (Gräf) O'Rourke. When she was nine years old, her family moved to South Toms River, New Jersey, and she graduated from Toms River South High School in 1970. Noreen married Frederick O. Dunn Jr. in July 1970, residing in Asbury Park and Barnegat, NJ. The family moved to Bennington, Vermont, in 1987.
One of Noreen's favorite positions was as a cashier at Big Bill's Cash and Carry in Manahawkin, NJ. In Vermont, Noreen worked as a supervisor at Dunkin Donuts until becoming a supervisor at All Days and Onions Deli/Restaurant in Bennington. In 1994 Noreen joined the Postal Service as a clerk at the Pownal Post Office, then in the Williamstown, MA Post Office. In 1999, Noreen earned a promotion to Postmaster of Readsboro, VT, and in 2002, appointed Postmaster of Wilmington, VT. She finished the last nine years of her career in the USPS as Postmaster of Manchester Center, VT, retiring on December 31, 2014.
Noreen was known for her laugh, feisty and fiery personality, prolific shopping, over-commitment to work, and over-the-top delicious cooking and baking - anything she did, she overdid. She was the center of her family's universe, making everything easier for everyone else. She was the most selfless, giving, and loving person " too much a lot of the time and at her own expense always.
Noreen is survived by her heartbroken family and friends too numerous to list. Immediate surviving family includes husband Frederick, daughter Christina E. (Dunn) Cullinane, her husband, James (Trippe) Cullinane, and son Thomas F. Dunn. Noreen is also survived by two brothers, Brian O'Rourke (wife Michelle), Michael O'Rourke (wife Peng), and her five precious grandchildren, Ryan Dunn, Julian, and Keller Cullinane, Dylan and Dasha Dunn. She is predeceased by her son Brian P. Dunn, brother Robert O'Rourke Jr., sister Mary (O'Rourke) Cowdrick, and her parents.
