Neva Dutcher LaCroix, 95, widow of Alfred J. LaCroix, a longtime resident of County Street in Bennington died Friday October 4, 2019 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Bennington, VT March 10, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Carrie (Peake) Dutcher. Neva received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School Class of 1941.
Mr. and Mrs. LaCroix were married at Sacred Heart Church on August 11, 1942. Mr. LaCroix died September 19, 1996.
Neva was employed for twenty-seven years at the Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington until her retirement in 1983.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary and she was a Guardian Ad-Litem for ten years and also served on Court Diversion. Mrs. LaCroix was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, she enjoyed reading, playing cards and dominos.
Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Gustavson and Neva Hebert and her husband Roger of Bennington and Judith Ivey of Panama City Beach, Florida; a son Eric LaCroix and his wife Theresa of North Adams, MA. along with many grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren and great great step grandchildren. Two sisters, Jean Condon and Barbara Eddy of Nassau, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a son, James LaCroix and his wife Barbara, two son in laws, Ralph Gustavson and John Ivey, a granddaughter Lorie Schaeffer and three sisters, Ida Meiers, Clara Betit and Lillian Center.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday October 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday October 10, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
