Nelda M. Kayatta, 96, a resident of 34 Grass Mountain Road in Arlington, VT died Tuesday May 22, 2018 at her residence following a long illness.
She was born in Fort Payne, Alabama February 15, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Verna (Hawkins) Murdock. Nelda received her education in Fort Payne and was a graduate of Dade County High School in Georgia. She later graduated from Martha Berry College.
Nelda served in the United States Navy during World War II.
She married Eugene Kayatta May 27, 1944 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
In earlier years Nelda, along with her husband owned and operated Whipple's Pharmacy in Manchester, VT, where she was a cosmetician. She also worked in bookkeeping and accounting in the family business and she started and operated Nelda's Fabric Store.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Lady of Holy Seplucher. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, skiing and was a collector of antique plates.
Survivors include a son in law, Robert Farley of Arlington, VT; Three grandchildren, Liam Farley, Robert A. Farley and Benjamin Kayatta . Two great grandchildren, Ava Kayatta and Silas Farley; a sister, Lee Hartline of Columbus, Georgia and several, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Eugene, a daughter, Verna Farley, a son Vincent Kayatta and a sister Joverna Smith.
Services will be celebrated at Christ Our Savior Catholic Church in Manchester, VT on Monday May 28, visitation at 9:45 a.m. - until 10:30 a.m. the start of the funeral service.
The burial will take place at the George B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery where Nelda will be laid to rest next to her husband Eugene at the convenience of the family.
