Nancy Eleanor Frechette (DeForge), 96, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, at the Crescent Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington.
She was born in Bennington, VT on March 15, 1928, to William DeForge Sr. and Mary Eleanor DeForge (Quackenbush).
Nancy began her education in the one-room Burgess Road Schoolhouse and graduated from Bennington High School in 1946. She was a lifelong resident of Burgess Road, leaving only to attend the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Burlington, VT, from which she graduated in 1948.
While attending Mary Fletcher, Nancy met Edward Frechette on a New Year’s Eve blind date. The two wed on June 13, 1948 in Essex Junction, Vermont and remained married until Ed’s death in 2009.
A mother to three young boys, Nancy was never one to rest and remained committed to her education, obtaining her registered nursing certification through the Regents program at Russell Sage College. As a registered nurse, Nancy served as evening director of nursing for several years at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Nancy is survived by three sons: Edward (Virginia - deceased) of Goffstown, NH, James (Anita) of Bennington, VT, and Thomas (Patricia) of Williston, VT. Eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Yucht and the staff of the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Emergency Department, as well as the entire staff at Crescent Manor Nursing Home for their care these past few years.
Services for Nancy will be private. Her burial will be held at the family plot at the Bennington Village Cemetery in Bennington, VT.
