Mildred A. Davis of Bennington died at home after a short illness. She was born in Bennington,
Vermont, on January 24,1930. The daughter of Marion E. Bent and Lewis H.H. Davis, she
graduated from Bennington High School in 1948, from Bishop Memorial School of Nursing at
Pittsfield General Hospital (Pittsfield, MA) in 1951, and Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY) with
a B.S. degree in nursing in 1958.
Her career included Maternity and Nursery (1951-1956) at both Pittsfield General and Hillcrest
hospitals in Pittsfield, MA, and Medical-Surgical nursing at University Hospital in Syracuse, NY
(part time and full time).
She joined the faculty at Springfield Hospital (Springfield, MA) School of Nursing as an
Instructor in Med-Surgical nursing in 1960-1962. She joined the staff at Lemuel Shattuck
Hospital as Nursing Supervisor and continued her work in various spots (in service education,
out-patient, etc.) enjoying the variety until her retirement as Director of Nurses in 1987.
Mildred is survived by two sisters and their husbands. Barbara and Louis King of Sebring, FL,
and Nola and Kirby White of Cambridge, NY. She is predeceased by her sister Nancy Wright
Rousseau. She leaves a number of nieces and nephews, some of whom she and Mary often
borrowed for weekends and vacation visits when they were children. These visits provided lots
of fun and fond memories for all. The close relationships have continued in adulthood. They
were Ilene and Douglas Wright of Bennington, VT; Nola, Victor and Paul King of Albany, NY and
San Jose, CA; Nancy and Bonny White of Cambridge, NY and Brattleboro, VT; Judith Allen
Long of Lewisburg WV; James Maloney of NY, NY and Robert Maloney (deceased); and Jackie,
Kathy and Michael Baroli of Windsor, MA.
Her many friends include Delight Wolfe of Mystic, CT, Teresa Allen (and family) of Levittown, PA, Patricia Maloney of Pittsfield, MA, and Phil Farren of Foxboro, MA.
She also leaves two great nieces, two great nephews, and one grand great niece.
Burial was private. Mildred asked that, if anyone wishes to make a donation in her memory,
they choose the charity of their own preference.
