Michelle Marie Shephard

Michelle (Shelly) Marie Shephard, 60 a resident of Bennington, VT, passed away this past week on April 19, 2023 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Michelle was born in Bennington on July 23, 1962 to the late Suzanne F. Brodeur and John G. Carpenter. She attended local schools and made many lifelong friends in Bennington. She married her only husband, Alan R. Shephard SR., on October 25, 1986 and together they had two children and 4 grandchildren. She spent her working years employed at the Greenhouse restaurant in Old Bennington, VT, the Viking Motel in Wilmington, VT and Beshara’s Market in Bennington, VT. Michelle’s main focus in life however was her family. She loved spending her time as a stay-at-home mom and later in life as a dotting grandmother, spending every moment possible with her kids and grandkids. Michelle loved to draw, cook and watch cartoons with the kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed going for a Sunday drive and going hunting for deals at tag sales. She loved to go out and eat, and she was someone you could always count on to make you laugh. She was well known for her humor. As she got older, Michelle enjoyed playing Bingo and winning stuffed animals to send home to her grandkids, having lunch dates with her daughter, making crude jokes with her future son-in-law, and spending countless hours chatting on the phone with her grandkids. being a mother and a grandmother. Michelle is survived by her ex-husband, Alan R. Shephard, SR., of Murfreesboro, TN, her son Alan R. Shephard, JR., of Troy, NY and his former high school sweetheart, Mindy Borden of Bennington, VT, whom Michelle loved as her own daughter and referred to her as such and their son, Michelle’s grandson; Dylan Shephard of Bennington, VT. Michelle is also survived by her daughter; Dakota B. Shephard. Of Bennington, VT, her future son-in-law, Dana Thomas, of Hoosick Falls, NY whom Michelle referred to as her own son and loved as such and their three children, Michelle’s grandchildren, Marxus, Xander and Ruby. Michelle also leaves behind her four remaining siblings, Lynette Jones, John Carpenter, JR., Bruce Carpenter, Brian Carpenter, her brother-in-law, William Carey, SR., as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Deborah Carey in October 2022. At the family’s request there will be no public service. A small gathering is in the works.
