Michael Paul McCann, 68, of North Bennington, passed away on December 28, surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Born on September 9, 1950 in the territory of Anchorage Alaska, he was the son of the late John R McCann and Rita (Collette) McCann.
Raised in a military family, Michael lived and attended schools in Anchorage, Alaska; Fitchburg, MA, Bristol, CT , Portland and Castine Maine before moving as a teenager to Bennington, Vermont and graduating from MAUHS in the class of '69.
Michael married the former Lynne Fonteneau on July 8, 1989 in North Bennington, in the home they
built the previous year.
Much in demand by area contractors, Michael worked for many years as a dry wall taper until his retirement in 2014 due to declining health. His skill is evident in in the many homes he worked on throughout the region.
Always athletic, Michael played baseball and golf as a youngster, later playing second base for the B&R Cobbers. He was a runner and life-long golf enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife Lynne Fonteneau McCann of North Bennington, siblings Murray McCann,
Cynthia Harvey, Collette (William) Schoelkopf and Paula McCann, as well as as his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
"¨A celebration of his life will be held at the Taraden Barn in North Bennington, Saturday, January 5th, from 2-5 p.m. Friends and family are encouraged to attend to enjoy fellowship and share fond memories of Michael.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, VT, or the Fund for North Bennington.
Private committal services will take place at the convenience of the family.
