Michael J. Corcoran, 71, a resident of Regwood Drive, Bennington, died peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Bennington on July 30, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Monica (Hogan) Corcoran. Mike received his education at St. Francis de Sales Academy and Bennington Catholic High School in Bennington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mike married the former Frances Weber in Hoosick Falls, NY on October 24, 1968.
He was employed at Union Carbide Corp, later Eveready, in Bennington for over 42 years until his retirement in 2010.
His favorite pastime was time spent with his grandchildren, Landree and Dylan. He enjoyed working on his lawn, all types of cars, following NASCAR and especially time spent with his grand-dogs, Scout and Sadie.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Corcoran of Bennington, two sons, Michael Corcoran Jr and his fiancé Tara Bryant and Justin Corcoran, all of Bennington; a granddaughter, Landree Corcoran and her significant other, Nicholas Kordana of Adams, MA and his grandson, Dylan Corcoran and his fiancé Callie Swanson of Bennington; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Wanda Corcoran of North Andover, Ma; a sister, Mary Hier of Jupiter Florida; two sisters-in-law, Linda Corcoran of Bennington and Mary Corcoran of Bronx, NY; a former brother-in-law, Daniel Hier of Jupiter; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Anne and James Mabee and Ruth and Frank Lofaro, all of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel and Timothy Corcoran.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bennington.
