Mary Patricia "Pat" Taylor, 92, of Bennington, VT, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a hip fracture and complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Pat was born on June 23, 1932, in Hutchinson, KS to William and Frances (Albaugh) Copeland, and grew up with a sister, Margaret (Kline), who predeceased her, in Great Bend, KS. She attended schools in Great Bend, and eventually the University of Kansas where she earned a B.A. and met her husband, Herbert Ellis Taylor. They married in 1954 and parented three children, of whom Pat was very proud. The family lived many years in Longmeadow, MA before moving to Bennington in 1985.
Pat was a quiet person who loved caring for her family, and reading. She enjoyed being a part-time librarian in earlier years. She was a super cook, and had a great love for music, listening to as much classical, jazz and sacred music as she could. She was always surrounded by stacks of books and musical records and CDs. She loved animals and nature and looked forward to quiet walks along her tree-lined road.
Pat was a quiet believer in Jesus Christ and was involved in the life of her church until she was no longer able to do so. She last attended the Federated Church of East Arlington, VT.
Pat is survived by her husband, Herbert, and three children: Leigh Smith (David) of St. Albans, VT; Bill Taylor of Strathpeffer, Scotland; Bryan Taylor (Kerry Reilly) of Longmont, CO; a granddaughter, Patience Smith; and many much-loved nieces and nephews. Pat also leaves behind her best friend, Jane Kennedy, who was an incredible help to the family, especially in Pat’s declining days.
The funeral for Pat is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Federated Church of East Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (alzfdn.org).
