BENNINGTON
Mary Ellen Sage Lane, 82, widow of Adrian C. Lane, a longtime resident of Park Street, Bennington, died Monday at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation following a long illness.
Born in Mystic, Connecticut on December 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Jesse Sage and Dorothy (Cordiner) Sage. Mary Ellen was a 1952 graduate of North Bennington High School.
She married Adrian on December 30, 1952 at the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. Adrian died June 2, 2015.
In the 1970's Mary Ellen worked as the manager of the Kids Store at the Potters Yard in Bennington and also taught piano lessons for many years. In later life Mary Ellen attended Bennington College and after receiving her degree in 1982 she did graduate work at RPI in Troy, NY.
Very active in various fund raising activities in the community for many years, Mary Ellen was recogn ized by Lions International in 1990 when she was named a Melvin Jones Fellow in recognition of her efforts to raise funds for several charities including the American Diabetes Association.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Lane Oesterle and Niles Oesterle of Nazareth, PA; a son and daughter-in-law, Adrian (Skip) and Mary Lane of Cambridge, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Laurence and Anne Lane of La Jolla, CA; six grandchildren, Blossom Myers, Jesse Lane, Christopher Lane, Eric Oesterle, Darcy Petrie, and Amy Hannon; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Susan Wiskoski of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Mary Ellen Lane will be held from the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church on Friday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery at a later date.
Should friends desire memorial contributions in Mary Ellen Lane's memory may be made to either the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Bennington Lions Club Sight and Hearing Fund.
