Mary Keenan passed away peacefully at BMC due to heart and related medical issues.
She was born in Beacon, NY on November 21, 1936 and is predeceased by her parents Francis and Elmere Kennelly and two brothers, Thomas and Francis. She is survived by her husband James, and her five children, Mary Ellen Fulling and husband Frank, Apex, NC, Dr. James F. Keenan and his wife Kathy, Bennington, Michael and Deidre Keenan, Cicero, NY, Peter and Sheila Keenan, Langhorne, PA, and Brian and Allison Keenan, Victor, NY. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, Kayleigh, Daniel, Liam, Katie, Luke, Bridget, Michael, Mackenzie, Kelly, Aiden, Aislinn, Owen, Connor and Caitlin.
Mrs. Keenan attended St. John's grammar school, Beacon and Mt. St. Mary's Academy, Newburgh, NY. She was employed as a clerk with a NY stock exchange company and later as a technical librarian for IBM. She lived in Somerset, NJ for many years and was very active in fund raising and other youth activities at her parish, St. Matthias. As a homemaker, Mary raised five children and participated in many community activities. She was later employed by The Cenacle Sisters as an office manager.
She enjoyed travel and visited many places in the U.S. and Europe. She was extremely devoted to her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them. For the past 12 years she was a dialysis patient and received excellent care at the SWVMC dialysis center. She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday November 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Saint Joachim- Saint John the Evangelist Cemetery in Beacon, New York on Tuesday November 22, at 11:00 a.m.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday November 20, from 3;00 to 6;00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
