Mary Carol Hewitt, age 75, a resident of Petit Drive in Pownal, died on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on December 25, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Leona (Goodrowe) Morgan. She married Robert Hewitt in 1959, he survives. For many years, Mary was employed at Union-Carbide in Bennington as a machine operator.
Bob and Mary moved into their dream log home eleven years ago where they still reside.
Mary was a wonderful cook and baker, which included cake decorating for many special occasions. She loved family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners. Mary loved the ocean and camping and spending time in Maine and Nova Scotia. She enjoyed gardening and canning, playing games including bingo, as well as raising chickens. Mary was a huge animal lover has raised many over the years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her four children: Tina Bartlett of Pownal, Gary (Terri) Hewitt of Pownal, Rhonda Swartz of Bennington, and Brian (Dawn) Hewitt of Bennington. She leaves nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Mary has two sisters: Patricia (Francis) Jolin and Beverly Briggs, both of Massachusetts. She leaves behind one special friend Joanne Sausville of Bennington and her companion Bella.
She is predeceased by four brothers: Robert Morgan, Ralphy Morgan, Roland Morgan and Richard Morgan.
A Memorial service will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington on Wednesday afternoon, September 27 at 3:00PM.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00pm until the time of the service.
