Mary Eileen Flood

Mary Eileen Shea Flood , 92, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Albany Medical Center on November 3, 2023. Mary was born on April 14th, 1931 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada to the late Henry Joseph Shea and Albertine Pinet Shea. She graduated from St. Charles High School in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Mount Saint Vincent College and Halifax Infirmary in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She worked as a registered x-ray technician at Highland View Hospital in Amherst and also at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in Montreal. She was proud of her Canadian heritage; Nova Scotia held a special place in her heart. Tom and Mary moved to Bennington, Vermont in 1983. She worked as the Director of Religious Education at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales. She served on several boards in Bennington: Putnam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Putnam Memorial Hospital Board, Weston Hadden Board, and Bennington Project Independence Board. She was a devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Chuch and served on the Parish Council, Chair of Parish Life, Art and Environment Committees, and was an extraordinary minister. She was the recipient of the Holy Cross Award in 2016. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years; Thomas Flood. Her children and their spouses; Sharon Jane Newman (Gary), Thomas Henry Flood Jr. (Nathalie Brunet), David Kevin Flood (Teresa Lariviere), Joseph James Flood, Richard Walter Flood (Yaprak Kant), and Catherine Mary Morehouse (Matthew). Her grandchildren; Christopher, Michael, William, Emma Rose, Maud, Charles, Charlotte, Lindsay, Leo, Danika, Denver, Kayla, Brooke, and Matthew. And 11 great grandchildren. Mary was devoted to her family and her faith. Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 9th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. A funeral mass and liturgy of christian death will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis De Sales Church on Friday, November 10th at 11:00 a.m. If friends should desire, contributions in memory of Mary may be made directly to Sacred Heart Saint Francis De Sales Church, 238 Main Street, Bennington, Vermont 05201.
