Mary Dee (Polly) Buckley- August 14, 1925 -October 30, 2018
Mary Dee Buckley(Polly) died Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
Mary, known as "Polly", was born in New York City and grew up in Yonkers, NY, the first daughter of Mary and Peter Dee. She graduated in 1947 from Georgian Court University with a B.S. Dietetics degree. She maintained a strong affinity for nutrition (especially derived from sweets!). Polly wrapped bandages, organized blood drives and wrote to our troops during WWII. After the war, she worked as a dietician at New Rochelle College. In 1948, she married Robert J. Buckley at Corpus Christi Church in New York City. For 53 years they remained joyfully married and were blessed with eight children"a daughter and seven sons.
Polly was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert J. Sr., two sisters, Jane and Kay, her son John, granddaughter Jennifer, grandson Christopher, as well as her nephews Tom, Dick and Michael. She is survived by her loving brother, Peter Dee (Londonderry, VT), as well as her beloved sons (and spouses): Robert J. Buckley Jr. (Katheryn) of Arlington, TX, Peter of Atlanta, GA, Brian of Wellesley, MA, Mark (Peggy) of Marlborough, MA,, Christopher (Cristi) of Sewickley, PA, Paul (Tammy) of Bennington, VT, and a daughter, Clare Yukevich of Beaver, PA. Polly leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Sean, Erin, John, Christine, Elizabeth, Polly, Clare, Mary Beth, Olivia, Madeline, Robert J. III, Lauren, Melissa, William, and Charles and 9 great-grandchildren Bradley, Benjamin, Eliza, Caroline, Xavier, Lenin, Kumajiro, Emiliano and Samuel.
Polly was devoted to her faith, husband and family. She loved to travel and did so extensively across the globe. An avid swimmer and dancer, she always put work first, but celebrated the gift of life at every opportunity. She loved cooking, needlepoint and music (marvelous gutbucket player!). Several of her children and grandchildren have excelled as teachers, musicians and singers stemming, in part, from Polly and Bob's love of the arts. Her survivors will remain perpetually grateful for her unfailing strength, generosity, courage, kindness, gentle manner, defiant hope and enduring faith in God and His mercy. Her family is indebted to her caregivers for their love and support.
