Mark Douglas Sweet

Mark Douglas Sweet, 60, a resident of Bennington, VT, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday April 6, 2025. Mark was born March 15, 1965 to Douglas and Linda (Grover) Sweet, the oldest of four children.
Mark graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School in 1983. He enlisted in the Marines and proudly served his country for four years. Upon his return to Bennington Mark worked for Synergy Gas (now Amerigas) for 30 years until the time of his illness.
Mark’s favorite pastime was being with his friends, fishing, metal detecting or just spending time together. A testament to the importance of these friendships is the love and devotion shown to him throughout his life and their support and storytelling in his final days.
Mark was most proud of being a loving and supportive dad to his son Matthew. Their devotion to each other was to be admired. Mark was looking forward to the birth of Emilia, his first grandchild, in June.
Surviving Mark is his son, Matthew (Ashley), Mark’s mother Linda, his brothers; Steve and Jeffrey (Sarah) and his sister Anna as well as nieces and nephews. Predeceasing Mark is his maternal grandma, Gertrude Grover of North Bennington whose favorite name for Mark was “her pesky,” and his father Douglas.
At Mark’s request there will be no services.
