Marianne Louise Martin

February 1, 1932 — April 1, 2016

Marianne (Mary) Louise Murphy Martin, widow of Charles W. Martin, a former resident of Sunderland, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on February 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lottie Chadwick Smith. Mary received her education in the Westfield schools.
For many years Mary and Charles operated Mary's Antique Oak Furniture from their home in Sunderland. Following Mr. Martins death in 1998 Mary moved to Homestead Mews in North Bennington. She loved making life better for others and worked to expand opportunities for seniors in her community. Mary was also treasurer of her "young at heart seniors" club. Most of all she made everyone laugh and gave the best hugs.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Waite of Southwick, MA and Katherine Yrsha of Bruinswick, GA; a son, Robert Martin of Bennington; seven grandchildren: Heather Lindhardt, Jim Wilkins, Amanda Lacoste, Nichole Lacoste, Joni Martin, Rebecca King and Heidi MacRae; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden, Davyn, Peighton, Riley, Cassidy, Carson, Abigail, and Logan.
At Mary's request private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
