Mrs. Margaret C. Sweet, 84, widow of John C. Sweet, a former resident of Paddock Place in Bennington and more recently of Hunt St. died Sunday August 14, 2016 at her residence following a long illness.
She was born in Bennington, VT November 28, 1931. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Nora (Foster) Cannavan. She received her education in the Bennington schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Sweet were married on June 30, 1951 in Bennington. Mr. Sweet died February 7, 1966.
In earlier years Mrs. Sweet was employed at EZ Mill and the Pownal Tannery. She later was employed as a licensed nursing assistant for Bennington Area Home Health.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and sewing.
Survivors include four daughters, Colleen M. Sweet, Alice L. Sherman, Cheryl A. Sweet and Mary E. Foster all of Bennington, two sons, Steven O. Sweet of Bennington and Ray G. Sweet of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; a sister Mary Lou Davis of Cheshire, MA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a grandchild, a sister Catherine Ballance and two brothers Bernard and John Cannavan.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday August 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A graveside committal service will take place on Friday August 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, VT.
