BENNINGTON
Margaret Ellen "Maggie" Hoyt, 81, wife of Theodore W. "Ted" Hoyt, passed to Our Lord on February 15, 2017. She died peacefully at her home in Surfside Beach, SC where she resided with Ted and their special nephew, Tim Carroll.
Maggie was born in Bennington on March 13, 1935, daughter of the late Robert Pilling Sr. and Mildred (North) Pilling. Maggie received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1953 graduate of Bennington High School. In August of 1953 Maggie and Ted were married in Bennington. In earlier years Maggie owned Hoyt's Ceramics in Bennington. She was a Hospice volunteer for many years, supporting patients and their families. She also hosted foreign exchange students in her home.
One of Maggie's passions was knitting Christmas stockings for many people who were very close to her, and over the years she made over 100 for friends and family. Her family and friends were most important to her. She was extremely loved and will be missed by many.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Hoyt of Surfside Beach, SC; her four children, Ellen (Howard) Vaine, Stephen (Lynn) Hoyt, Deborah Ernst and Kevin Hoyt; seven grandchildren, Brian Vaine, Dylan Hoyt, Jayde Hoyt, Payton Hoyt, Skyler Hoyt, Kolby Hoyt and Jaime Racicot; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Maggie was predeceased by three grandsons, Jason Vaine, Ronald Oakes Jr. and Eric Oakes as well as a brother and two sisters, Robert Pilling Jr., Dorothy Carroll and Joanne Dunham.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. A prayer service will take place at 3:45 p.m.
Private committal services will take place at the the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
