Marcien Roy of Milford, NH passed away surrounded by his family on December 3, 2022, at the age of 99. He was a long-time resident of Bennington and Pownal Vermont, where he raised his family with his wife MaryAnne (Betit). Marcien immigrated to the United States with his mother and three brothers from Quebec City Canada at a young age. He became a U.S. citizen when he enlisted in the Army to serve in WWII as a truck driver. Shortly after returning from war, he married the love of his life, MaryAnne. After working for several years in the tannery, he bought a piece of land in Pownal and opened a mobile home park, Royal Pine Villa. He was known in his family and community as a generous, humble, self-made man who helped many people. He enjoyed reading, writing, and playing cards. He often played games with his grandchildren, teaching them life lessons through the game; sharing his wisdom and teaching them to play with the hand they were delt. Of all the accomplishments he made in his life, he often said that his greatest accomplishment was his family. As the patriarch of a very large family, he set a wonderful example and he beamed with pride whenever he spoke of his family. He is predeceased by his wife of almost 74 years, MaryAnne, his son Robert Roy (Bobby), his parents Antionette and Henry Roy, his siblings, Robert Roy, Paul Roy, Rene Roy, Mary Brissette, Theresa Gratton, and Alice Bosley. He is survived by his children Eugene Roy (Eileen), Peggy Towsley (Richard), Mary Grise (Mark), Leon Roy (Paula), Anne Marie Lia (Rudy), 31 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild, his sisters, Lucy Cary, and Beatrice Bopp, and sister-in-law Estelle Hoth, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart – St. Francis Church in Bennington VT, on Friday 12/9/22 at 11:00.
