Mac Andrew Muniz, 47, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away at his home following an unexpected illness on Sunday, September 10th, 2023. Born on November 16th, 1975, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late James and Carleen (Gabry) Muniz. Mac was raised in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1993. He later attended Southern Vermont College in Bennington and Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications in 1999 After college, Mac began a career working as a counselor for young men at the Bennington School Inc. Before parting ways with Bennington School, he became the resident supervisor AOD. He later continued his counseling as a reentry coordinator for the Center for Restorative Justice (CRJ) in Bennington. Mac also worked for a time at Ramunto’s Brick Oven Pizza and, most recently, as a cashier at Buck Stop Mini-Mart in Bennington. Mac's remaining in Bennington after college later resulted in him meeting the love of his life. On February 21st, 2003 he met Melanie Griswold. They were married on July 21st, 2007 at the Old First Church in Bennington. Mac was devoted to the life he built with Melanie and loved sharing it with his family and friends, taking excellent care of their lawn, garden, and grounds so he and Mel could host pool parties. An excellent cook, Mac could often be found at the grill or in the kitchen, where he loved preparing meals for those closest to him. Mac enjoyed playing soccer, volleyball, and golf, watching the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins, and taking trips to the ocean and beaches. Mac also loved spending time with his dogs, Meadow and Macs. Survivors include his wife of over 16 years, Melanie Muniz. His brother, Eric Muniz (Chesley). His niece, Eloise. His mother-in-law, Mary LaLonde (Jim). His father-in-law Donn Griswold (Donna). His sisters-in-law; Christina Wortman (Mark), Jocelyn Hawley, and Britini Hawley. His brother-in-law, Dillion Hawley. His nieces and nephews on his wife’s side: Brandon, Keegan, Jordan, Harper, and Georgia. As well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. Mac is predeceased by his brother; Jimmy Muniz. His paternal grandparents. His sister-in-law Kelsea Hawley. As well as his dogs, Shelby, Boston, and Willow. Calling Hours for Mac will be held on Monday, September 18th, 2023, at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Following the conclusion of the visitation, there will be a funeral service at noon. The burial will take place at Center Shaftsbury Cemetery on Rte. 7A in Shaftsbury following the funeral service.
