Lowell W. Greene

November 16, 1930 — March 24, 2024

Lowell W. Greene, 93. died at home peacefully with his family by his side on March 24th, 2024. Born on November 16th, 1930, he was the son of the late Arlie E. Greene and Bessie (Beagle) Greene. Lowell was a Shaftsbury native where he grew up with his parents and 14 siblings on the farm. He served as a 1st Sergeant in the Army from 1949-1952 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home from the Army, he continued his passion for hunting with his family and friends. Lowell spent his life in construction operating heavy equipment. Upon retirement he continued working until his late 70's. He lived with his wife Lucille (Moffitt) Greene in North Bennington for 30 plus years until his passing. If you tried to find him during the winter months, he would be in the woods hunting, often at his camp in Maine. In his later years he loved to reminisce about growing up in Shafts bury, where he liked to hunt and fish. the farm he grew up on, houses and roads he built. where the old schoolhouse was and having coffee with his friends - laughing and telling stories of years past. He touched many lives with his kindness and humor. He will be missed. Lowell was preceded by his parents: Arlie E. Greene, Bessie (Beagle) Greene of Shaftsbury, his son Lowell A. Greene, stepson Alan Barcomb, sisters: Eleanor Welch. Lina Armstrong, Barbara Charron, brothers: Cecil Greene, Donald Greene, Raymond Greene. Arlie E. Greene (Skip), Warren Greene (Bobby), John Greene, and Howard Maxwell. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Greene, brother and sisters: Bessie Greene (Betty), Gale Greene, Elmer Greene (Dickie), Sonny Young, children: Chad Greene, Jill Greene, and Barbara (Greene) Anderson. grandchildren: Grace Barker, Caleb Greene, Samantha Greene, Emily and Sarah Anderson, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and stepchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours for Lowell on Friday March 29th, 2024 from 5pm till 8pm at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. A funeral service for Lowell will be held on Saturday March 30th, 2024 at 11am also at the Mahar Funeral Home. Immediately following the service, there will be a procession to Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in Shaftsbury, Vermont, where there will be a graveside service for Lowell.
