Louise Frances Griffis (Elwell)

LOUISE F. GRIFFIS (April 28, 1927 " July 4, 2017)
The only child of Annie (Cross) Elwell and Roy Elwell, born at home April 28, 1927 in Shaftsbury, Vermont passed after a lengthy cancer battle on Tuesday July 4, 2017 at the age 90.
As a child Louise lived on the family farm, and loved square dancing. She married her late husband of 53 years, Joseph Griffis, a 21 year United States Air Force Veteran in 1960.
Louise was an 8th grade graduate from The Snow School on East Road, worked at the BenMont Paper Company, and Union Carbine. She was a Tansitor Electronics Quality Control Manager for 33 years, from 1956 to 1989. Louise enjoyed her 28 year retirement with her beloved family and friends.
Louise's greatest joys were her two children; Roy Howard Milligan and Delores Milligan Percy. She is survived by her son Roy Milligan and his wife Maryellen Mahoney, and daughter Delores (Dee) Percy and her husband Herbert Percy, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and extended family.
Louise will always be remembered for her humor, strength, courage and old time stories of being an "East Roader". She was famous for her one line sayings: "The first 100 years are the hardest" and "Life is a bowl of cherries". She enjoyed coloring, sewing, red cardinals, horse racing in New Hampshire, and the color purple.
All are welcome to celebrate the life of Louise F. Griffis at The White Chapel Church, Chapel Road, Bennington, VT Monday, July 10, 2017 for an 11:00am service and burial. A reception will follow in the Crispe Room at the Vermont's Veterans Home. Contributions can be made to The White Chapel Society.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring, and professional Vermont Veteran's Home staff who lovingly cared for Louise.
