He was born on December 26, 1929 in Bennington, Vt. to Theodule and Hermine Betit.
He is survived his wife, Julia and their three sons: Tim Betit (Peggy) of Marshfield MA, Jeff Betit of Bridgewater MA and Alan Betit and Chris Fink of Niskayuna, NY. He has seven grandchildren Dr. Steven Betit (Erica), Kayla Cote (Ben), Alexander Betit, Collin Betit, Cameron Betit, Marshall Betit (Rebecca) and Kristen Smith (Steve) He also has 4 great grandchildren. Jonah Betit, Willow Cote, Chase Smith and Gwendolyn Betit. He is also survived by his brother Edward Betit and his sisters Maryann Roy and Estelle Hoth.
He is predeceased by his eldest son David Betit and two infant daughters Lisa and Leslie Betit, daughter in law Joanne Rogalski Betit and brother Joseph Betit.
Louis was a long time resident of Bennington VT and enjoyed spending his winters in Dunedin FL. He worked as a self-employed builder and carpenter as well as a lithographer in his early years. He enjoyed furniture and clock making, playing piano, painting, and golf.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Main Street in Bennington on Saturday, October 20th with a calling hour at the church at 10 am and a Funeral Mass at 11 am with burial to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers; donations may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
