Lorraine M. Mattison, 90, a resident of Rod & Gun Club Road in Shaftsbury, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home in Bennington surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in Waitsfield, VT on March 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mildred (Jacquith) Moriarty. She received her education in Waitsfield schools.
Lorraine married Richard "Dick" Mattison in North Bennington on January 6, 1951. Dick passed peacefully October 6, 2014.
In 1956 Dick and Lorraine established Wayward Winds Farm in Shaftsbury, VT. In 1972 they traded in the farm life and purchased the Iron Kettle Restaurant in Shaftsbury. They sold the restaurant in 1988 and dedicated full time to the Mattison Christmas Tree Farm which remains in family operation today.
In later years prior to her retirement Lorraine worked as a health aide assisting people to maintain dignity of life while they remained in their homes.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jack Rifenburg of Mechanicville, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Serena Mattison of Shaftsbury; three grandchildren, Kainen Mattison of Shaftsbury, Elizabeth Schauer of Mexico City and Alonya Wagner of Spring Creek, NV and three great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine was predeceased by a daughter Deborah Ann Mattison, a sister, Natalie Marsh and a brother; David Moriarty.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
