Lorraine Marion Martin

Lorraine M Brooks Martin of North Bennington passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on April 3, 2023. Lorraine was born in Clarksburg, MA on Dec 6,1928. The youngest of 6 born to Albert and Zenaide (LaPlante)Brooks, she graduated from Drury High School in 1947. In her early years Lorraine was employed by New England Tel and Tel and the Sprague Electric Company. Lorraine was married to the late James E Martin at the Notre Dame Church in North Adams on April 28th, 1951. In 1967 they relocated to Bennington Vt. They had been married 53 years when Jim passed away on August 4, 2004. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite enjoyment was that of being with her family and at family get togethers. Lorraine was a very optimistic person who was quick to smile. She enjoyed her home where besides being a great cook and learning all the latest in technology she had other pastimes which included a love for knitting and gardening. Lorraine was fiercely independent and always eager to lend a hand. She had the ability to turn the most mundane of tasks into an adventure. In her later years and after raising her family Lorraine worked at Bennington College and at Chittenden Bank where she retired in 1991. Lorraine was also a communicant of the ST John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. Survivors include her children Paul J Martin and his wife Ellen of Shaftsbury, Denise A Barton and companion Geno of North Bennington and Thomas Martin and companion Tamy of Salisbury, MA as well as her three grandsons Travis Martin, Ben Barton and Caley Martin all of Shaftsbury. Lorraine is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her siblings Alice Chouinard, Rachel Garner, Yvonne Simon, Oliver Brooks and Jeannette Trudeau. At Lorraine’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be held at the family lot at the Southview Cemetery in North Adams at the convenience of the family. If friends desire to make a contribution to the memory of Lorraine it may be made to St Judeʼs Childrenʼs Hospital through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral home, 628 Main St Bennington, Vt 05201.
