Lorraine Edith Baker

Lorraine Edith Baker, 72, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, following a short illness. Born on July 17th, 1951, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Shirley (Putney) Gauthier. Lorraine’s father was in the Navy, so the family moved many times. Eventually, the family finally settled in Bennington, where Lorraine attended and graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School with the class of 1969. After graduation, Lorraine began working as a “zipper setter” for CB Sports in Bennington. She later was employed at Wendy’s, the Bennington School, and Bromley Brook School. On September 9th, 1972, Lorraine married Frank E. Baker at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. Lorraine loved helping people, especially at-risk youth. She also enjoyed her church, bowling, reading, crocheting, and knitting. She was proud to be named the Bennington Health and Rehab Resident’s committee president. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandson Nick who was her pride and joy. Survivors include her children, Robert Baker and Maryann Russell (Christopher). A grandson, Nicholas Russell. Her siblings Teri Atwood, Lawrence Gauthier, Caroling Gauthier and Charles Gauthier. Lorraine is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Gauthier. At Lorraine’s request, there will be no formal services; however, the family plans to have a celebration of life at a later date.
