Lionel Brant Kavanagh died on October 10, 2024, in the company of his daughter Tara, his only child. Brant, as he was commonly known, had experienced a period of declining health following a motor scooter accident. Brant loved adventure, the outdoors, the mountains and lakes of NH and Maine. Regularly summering at Great East Lake, the cottage held special memories for Brant and his deceased wife Jan.
Brant was born on May 11, 1946, in Leominster, MA to John A & Ruth E. Kavanagh and is the fourth of five children. The Kavanagh family was known as successful business leaders and entrepreneurs. He was the grandson of Lionel Bernadine Kavanagh, a well-known inventor and innovator in the plastics industry. Brant attended the Garland School in Chester, NJ which sparked his interest in engineering, later attending a technical college in Boston for more advanced certifications. Working with early computers and audio-visual equipment in both Massachusetts and Maine, he later became a small business owner in North Conway NH. His death was preceded by his wife Janice C. MacArthur Kavanagh in 2005. He was at his heart a family man who adored those close to him.
Brant leaves behind his daughter Tara, his sisters Judy Woodward & Dale Kavanagh, and brother Mark Kavanagh. His eldest brother John Kavanagh also preceded his passing.
Brant loved skiing, fishing, water sports, gardening, and enjoying the company of loved ones and pets. He was coach for multiple youth sports teams in Andover MA and was always supportive of those that sought his help. Always trying to make the best of a situation, he was caring and kind to all those he surrounded himself with.
