Linda Marie Chaffin (Maillet)

Linda 63, a lifelong resident of Bennington,Vermont passed away early Tuesday morning, March 21st, in the comforts of her daughter's home following a decade long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born on October 4th, 1953 in Bennington, Vermont to Louis Maillet and Yvonne (Cormier) Maillet. Linda attended Sacred Heart School during her elementary years and then graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School in 1971. Linda began pursuing her passion as a caregiver during her high school years as a nurses aide while working towards becoming an LPN. Linda graduated from The Putnam School of nursing in 1978 as an LPN and began her over two decade career at Crescent Manor Care Centers. While working as an LPN, Linda graduated from SVC as an RN and continued selflessly providing for others. Linda retired as Assistant Director of Nursing from The Vermont Veterans Home in 2006 where she was highly admired for her dedication and compassion.

In 1978 Linda married the late Donald Chaffin at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington and they began their life together. Together, they raised four children who they loved unconditionally. Being a mother was something Linda found joy in and was her greatest sense of accomplishment in life. Linda was known known for her infectious smile, her calm demeanor, and selfless way of life. Her compassion for life included animals big and small. Her curiosity for other cultures lead her to become fascinated with may destinations including Egypt and China.

Linda is predeceased by her mother Yvonne Maillet and her former husband Donald Chaffin. She is survived by her children and their significant others; Amber Chaffin and Bryce Piper of Alpharetta, Georgia, Alexandra Chaffin and Jeremy Wood of Hebron, New York, Asher Chaffin of Bennington, Vermont, and Austin Chaffin of North Pownal, Vermont. She is also survived by her father Louis Maillet and her brother and sister-in-law Joe and Jean Maillet all of Florida as well as several cousins and nieces whom she loved. In addition to her family, she is survived by Brenda Mcguire and Kandy Southworth who provided exceptional care for her throughout her later years.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be on Monday, March 27th between 5 and 7 pm at Mahar's Funeral Home in Bennington where family will be in attendance. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 28th at 11 am at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington where the liturgy of Christian burial will be offered.

Burial will take place in the family lot at the Village Cemetery on Morgan Street immediately following the mass.
