Lillian Mary Sarchino of Bennington, Vermont, a retired School Secretary, Account Clerk and Treasurer of the Cornwall Central School District in Cornwall, New York for twenty-one years and 15-year resident of the area, died on April 12, 2018. She was 88 years old.
The daughter of the late James J. Chivelly and Mary Chivelly Millard, she was born on January 24, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. Lillian was a graduate of Samuel J. Tilden High School, Brooklyn, NY and also attended Orange County Community College, Middletown, NY where she studied Business Data Processing.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, VT, retired Public Employees Association, National Association of Federal Employees, former member of Catholic Daughters, Court Rita and Rosary Altar Society at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY. She also wrote the "Here & There" column for the Cornwall Local, the town newspaper. While living in Grahamsville, NY, Lillian was also Editor of the Townsman, the local newspaper there. She also enjoyed being a member of the Senior Citizen's Painting Class in Bennington. For the past few years Lillian has been a resident of Brookdale at Fillmore Pond, where she enjoyed the friendship of many of the residents and staff and participated in may of the activities.
Lillian was the widow of James E. Sarchino, whom she married on June 10, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, and who passed away on September 13, 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Mary Booker and her husband, Fred, of Bennington, Marianne Theresa Sarchino of Bennington and Barbara Billups of Coronado, CA, one son, Dr. William James Sarchino and his wife, Kathy, of Greenwich, NY, one brother, James J. Chivelly of Mastic, NY and eight grandchildren: Katherine Pierce, Frederick Booker, Margaret Booker-Turgeon, Bridgette Sarchino Wessels, Christine Ritenour, Jeni Nagy Bayrd, Robert and Thomas Billups and four great grandchildren: Dakota Ritenour, Molly Pierce, Annabeth Turgeon and Ocean Bayrd and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday April 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
Friends may call at Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday April 17, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be at the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery in Liberty, NY alongside her husband at a later date.
