S/SGT Leonard E. Forrest, U. S. Army, Ret., 84, a resident of Rutter Road, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Bennington on July 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Leonard W. and Bernice (Bushee) Forrest. Lenny received his education in the Bennington schools.
A veteran of both the Korea and Vietnam wars, Lenny served in the U.S. Army for twenty years, enlisting in 1948 and retired on September 30, 1968.
Lenny was first married to Hedwig Schaeffer in Nuremberg, Germany on April 1, 1952. Hedwig died January 9, 1986. He later married Dianne Cameron on October 29, 1988 in Bennington.
Following his military retirement Lenny resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado for a time before returning to Bennington. For several years he was employed at UST in Bennington. Lenny was a member of the Bennington Moose Lodge and was a life member of VFW Post 1332 in Bennington. His favorite pastime was tinkering in his machine shop.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Forrest of Bennington; three children, Fred (Helen) Forrest and Sebrena Forrest, both of Colorado Springs and Michael (Barbara) Forrest of Bennington; two stepsons, Michael (Marlene) Bushee and Edmond (Ada) Bushee, both of Bennington; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lenny was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, Patricia Acri and Charles and David Forrest.
At Lenny's request there will be no funeral services held.
