Leona M. Smith

Leona Mary “Lee” Smith (LaFlamme), 88, formerly of Smith Road in Petersburgh, NY died peacefully in Dalton, MA following a short illness. She was born in Bennington, VT on July 28, 1934, daughter of Theophile J. and Cedulie Olivine (LeClerc) LaFlamme. Lee received her education at Sacred Heart School in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School Class of 1953. She married Glenn C. Smith, of North Petersburgh, NY at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on May 16, 1959. Glenn passed away on September 8, 2021. Lee was employed at Hoosick Falls Central School, working as a cafeteria aide and a teachers’ aide but most of her life was spent as a homemaker. In her younger years Lee enjoyed bowling, cake decorating, quilting, playing cards and spending time with Glenn in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. More recently, she enjoyed spending time with her family playing cards and other games and puzzle building. Lee is survived by her three children: Scott Smith (Sandra Vanderkar), of North Petersburgh, NY, Susan Colliano (Michael), of North Petersburgh, NY, and Stephanie Willson (Michael), of Dalton, MA. Her five grandchildren, Samuel Colliano (Monique Hayes), Jacob Colliano (Emily Ostrander), Sarah Willson (Thomas O’Rourke), Joseph Willson (Olivia Furlong), Kaitlyn Weaver (Cole DeShane), and two great-grandchildren, Emmett DeShane and Leo DeShane. Lee is survived by a sister, Annette Rice, of Bennington, VT, and a sister-in-law, Gayle Hinsdill, of Troy, NY. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lee was predeceased by her two brothers, Rev. Julien LaFlamme and Adrien “Bit” LaFlamme, sister- in- law, Joanne (King) LaFlamme, and a niece, Michelle Niles. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, VT at 11am on Friday February 24, 2023. Immediately following the mass, the burial will take place in the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Lee may be made to Sacred Heart School through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
