Leon A. Foster Jr.

July 2, 1930 — March 23, 2016

Leon A. Foster Jr., age 85, a resident of Fox Hollow Road in Hoosick Falls, New York died on Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016, at home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Bennington, VT July 2, 1930. He was the son of the late Leon H. Foster and Verna Louise (Morse) Foster. He received his education in Bennington.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married the former Aline "Patsy" Savage on June 26, 1952.
He later married the former Mary Stephens January 23, 1993.

In earlier years Leon worked as a Barber in Arlington, VT. He later worked at the Polygraphic in North Bennington and Bennington Garage. He also worked at the Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, VT and was a Letter Carrier at the Bennington Post Office for many years from which he retired.

Leon enjoyed sports, both attending games of family members and coaching. For over 45 years Leon was involved in coaching American Legion Post 13 baseball, Little League and Interstate baseball. He also assisted coaching girls' softball and in earlier years played for Princes' Grill in the Men's Softball League. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, casinos and his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Mary Higgins of Hoosick Falls, New York. His children, Arla Foster and her husband Chris Barry of Florida, Donna Goodhue of Bennington, Brenda Lonergan and her husband Bruce of Bennington. His step children, Michele Flower, Crystal Telford and Paul Higgins. His grandchildren, Jeremy Foster, Joshua Gray, Anika Goodhue; Heather, Devon, and Derek Lonergan, Step-grandchildren Olivia Flower, Nicole Grogan, Jordan Telford, Megan, Paul Jr, Lindsay, Emily and Charlotte Higgins. His great grandchildren, Logan Fortune, Rachel and Zachary Foster, a step great grandson Paul Higgins and a step grandniece Alexandria Hakala. He was pre-deceased by his parents, a daughter, Nola Jean Foster, a grandson, Jeremy Foster, and two sisters, Ida Mae Legacy and June Velma Thayer, and his former wife Aline Johnson.

At the request of Mr. Foster there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

He will later be buried at the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
