Leo A. Bisson, 88, a life-long resident of North Pownal, died peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the Vermont Veterans Home surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Born in North Pownal December 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Cavey) Bisson. Leo received his early education in North Pownal and was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School. He later attended business college.
Leo was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the U. S. Army from 1953 " 1956.
He married the former Phyllis Jones at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal on July 18, 1953. Mrs. Bisson died March 29, 2015.
For many years Leo was employed at the Pownal Tannery. He later worked at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center until the time of his retirement.
Leo was a devout member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal and was the church organist and soloist for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 69 in Pownal where he served as Financial Officer.
Time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gave Leo his greatest pleasure. He also enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes.
Survivors include his five children, Linda DiMauro of Bowie, MD, Gwen Reale and her husband Rick of Lebanon, CT, Lois Bisson and her husband Louis Conrad of Ayer, MA, Paula Zoito and her husband Albert of North Adams and Joseph Bisson and his wife Michele of Pownal; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Simon of Redding, CA and Helen Jones of Hoosick Falls, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leo was predeceased by a sister and five brothers.
The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.
Burial will take place in the family lot at North Pownal Cemetery at a later date.
