Lawrence E. Goodell, Sr., 74, a resident of North Bennington Road, Bennington, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his residence with his wife at his side.
Born in Berlin, NY December 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Earl and Hazel (Schnoop) Goodell. Larry received his education in the Williamstown, MA schools.
A Vietnam War veteran, Larry served in the U. S. Army from 1961 -1964. He married the former Shirley Wright in North Adams, MA on August 15, 1962.
A machinist by trade, in earlier years Larry worked at the Pownal Tannery, Warren Wire, Arnold Print Works, Browns Machine Shop and Bijur Lubricating. Later in his career he was employed at Lovejoy Chaplet and retired from NSK Steering Systems.
Larry was a longtime member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Catamount Bow Club in Bennington. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, and shared his passion for deer hunting with his sons. For many years Larry owned and operated Heritage Hunting Knives, a business he started making hand-made hunting knives.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Goodell of Bennington; three sons and their wives, Walter and Lisa Goodell of Waterford, VT, Larry Goodell Jr. of Bennington and Erik and Jacquie Goodell of Bennington; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Kelsey Muckle, Erika, Sara, Dayna and Natalie; two great-grandchildren, Keya and Owen; a sister, Jean Floyd of Pittsfield, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Goodell was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, David, Robert and Thomas.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating the life of Lawrence E. Goodell Sr. at the Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Edwin Blue officiating.
