Lawrence J. Gates Sr.

May 21, 1958 — June 18, 2022

Lawrence J. "Boo" Gates Sr., 64, a resident of Stateline Drive in Pownal, VT died suddenly Saturday June 18th, at his summer home in Port Henry, NY.

He was born in Troy, NY May 21, 1958. He was the son of the late Arthur and Mabel (Brimmer) Gates. He received his education in Hoosick Falls and attended Hoosick Falls Central School.

He married the former Catherine A. Thompson December 3, 1994.

For many years Boo worked as a truck driver for Clemente Concrete in Adams, MA

Boo enjoyed playing golf and camping on Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and working on cars with his boys. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Catherine A. Gates of Pownal. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Larriann Marie Gates. His surviving children, Lawrence J. Gates Jr. and his wife Patricia of Pownal, VT, Lawrence J. Thompson Sr. of Pownal, Abigail Thompson of Pownal. His honorary son, Raymond Decker and family honorary daughter, Vivian Chandler. Eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren. His brothers and sisters, Samuel Ruggles of Hebron, NY, John Ruggles of Cambridge, NY, Francis Ormsbee of Burners Bay, NY and Lorraine Burnett of Saratoga, NY. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday June 22nd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held at the Bulwagga Bay Campsite in Port Henry, NY on Saturday June 25th at 2:00 p.m.
