Larry Davis
January 7, 1944 - May 25, 2022
Larry Davis of Yonkers NY and Bennington VT was born to William and Harriet (Munson) Davis. He spent most of his childhood in Windham, NY, the third of seven Davis children. Larry had fond memories of playing at Crest Park, the mountain boarding house run by his parents, aunts and uncles.
Larry graduated Windham-Ashland-Jewett High School in 1962 and spent a year at SUNY New Paltz before enlisting in the US Navy. He served on the aircraft carriers; USS Kitty Hawk, USS Bon Homme Richard and USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War. Among his service decorations was an Air Medal with five gold stars earned during a lifesaving refueling mission.
Larry married his soulmate, Elizabeth (Cady) Davis in 1975 and enjoyed 46 wonderful years of marriage until her death last September.
The Navy gave Larry the training he needed to begin a nearly five decade career in commercial aviation. He spent 30 years as an Aircraft Maintenance Instructor for Trans World Airlines out of Kennedy Airport in New York City. From there, he worked another 16 years at Flight Safety International's Teterboro Flight Center.
Despite a lifetime of achievements and honors, his proudest title (other than husband and father) was Pa to his beloved grandson Bennett, 7. They shared a love of engineering, a soft spot for birds and the same beautiful blue eyes.
Along with Bennett, Larry is survived by his daughter Kelly (Davis) Isenor and son-in-law, Nathan Isenor. He is also survived by brothers Bill (Carol) Davis of Calabasas, CA, Roy (Char) Davis of Selkirk NY, Ted Davis of Yonkers and sisters-in-law Ruthanne (Johnny) Muller of West Shokan and Mary (Richard) Thickens of Mequon, WI. He is preceded in death by his brother Glynn Davis and sisters Margaret Ann and Phoebe.
Larry and Liz were members of Old First Church in Bennington and Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale NY and former members of North Yonkers Community Church in Hastings.
