Laila L. Stout (Lingamfelter)

Laila was born on January 15th 1923 in Martinsburg WV, second daughter of Paul and Laila R Myers Lingamfelter. A graduate of Hedgesville High School she attended Shepherd University graduating from West Virginia University with a BS degree in Home Economics. She worked for the Taylor County Extension Service as a home demonstration agent for several years in Grafton, WV. There her landlady and future mother-in-law arranged a date with her husband-to-be Robert D Stout.
Robert and Laila were married June 10th 1950 in Martinsburg WV shortly after which Bob took his first hospital Administration job in Baltimore, Maryland. There Laila worked in the Baltimore County extension service. Bob enlisted for military service in Korea. Laila worked until her first child Lucinda was born. When Bob returned from Korea they remained in Baltimore for 3 more years and the birth of their son Robert. Bob's job took them next to Schenectady New York where he was assistant administrator at Ellis Hospital. After 5 years in Schenectady he accepted a job at Putnam Memorial Hospital now Southwest Vermont Medical Center as administrator and later became President working there over 30 years. At the hospital Laila volunteered in the gift shop and in medical records.
Laila excelled at cooking and baking, And was also a talented crafter, artist, musician, quilter, silversmith and gardener. There wasn't anything she couldn't sew. Health issues moved her to Sun City West, Arizona wintering there from 1980 until 2006.
She was a member of St Peter's Church. She is survived by her daughter Lucinda (Cindy) Thomson (G Latimer Schmidt) and son Robert D Stout II. She especially enjoyed her four grandchildren, Gareth Thomson (Crystal) of Jericho VT, Brooke Drew (Ted) of Bennington, Alex Thomson of Charleston SC and Amanda Thomson. She is survived by her sister Avalon Blizzard of Hedgesville WV and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2004.
A funeral service is scheduled at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington on Friday July 27th at 11 AM. Fellowship will follow in the Parish Hall. Memorial contributions can be made to Second Chance Shelter, St Peter's Church or Southwest Vermont Medical Center in Laila's memory.
