Kristin (Krissi) Joy Long, 35, of Bennington, Vermont, passed away suddenly on December 13, 2016. Kristin was born in Bennington on January 20, 1981, to Beatrice Long Welch and Robert Long, Jr. She attended Sacred Heart School, Mount Anthony Union Junior and Senior High Schools, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and Vermont Technical College's School of Nursing.
After earning her degree in sociology and social work, Kristin's dedication to human services became clear. Her first job was at a homeless shelter, where she met a despondent elderly widow"a new arrival whose home had fallen into grave disrepair. During her time off from work, Kristin, and a friend she recruited, remediated and rebuilt the widow's home, which allowed the widow many additional independent years there. Kristin continued her work in human services by becoming a licensed nursing assistant and enjoyed working with the elderly and in emergency medicine. She later became an EMT while completing a course of nursing study.
From a young age, Kristin's passion was performance arts. In high school, she enjoyed singing the national anthem at sporting events, singing with the chorus, and performing in various theatrical productions. As an adult, Kristin was an accomplished singer and songwriter who filled local venues and shared billing, regionally, with several national acts. She made the time to sing at countless weddings, funerals, and other special occasions for family, friends, and even fans.
Kristin's beautiful smile, acts of kindness and generosity, musical gifts, fantastic sense of humor, and spontaneous forays into physical comedy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She made friends easily and never forgot their names or faces" once her friend, always her friend.
