Kenneth Carlton O'Dell

POWNAL- Kenneth C. O’Dell, 88, a lifelong resident of Pownal, Vermont passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Pownal, VT on October 3rd, 1935 to the late William and Fannie (Lohnes) O’Dell. Ken was raised in Pownal and attended local schools. In 1955 he married Eva Anne Leonard. They were married for 64 years at the time of her passing in 2019. He was employed for many years as a burner technician, working for various companies in his career. He retired at the age of 65 from Greene’s Oil. Ken held the position of Cemetery Superintendent at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal for a long time. The Town of Pownal was very important to him. Ken was a proud member of the Pownal Fire Department for 65 years. He was still active at his time of passing. When he wasn’t working, Ken found enjoyment by hunting, fishing and camping. He loved the New York Giants. Another passion of Ken’s was gardening. Everyone was able to enjoy vegetables out of it. He had a special fondness for animals, always hoping that a visit from his children meant a visit from their dogs. His family referred to him as “Unc” or Gramp. Ken is survived by his two children; Craig O’Dell (Crystal) and Linda O’Dell Bishop (Keith). His six grandchildren; Justin Bishop, Jada Bishop, Joshua Bishop, Mariah Andrew, Ashley O’Dell and Brodie O’Dell. Ken is also survived by five great-grandchildren; Amarah Adams, Bentleigh Adams, Sawyer Tatro, Aaliyah Bishop and Layla Winchell. One sister, Elizabeth (O’Dell) Therriault. Ken was predeceased by three brothers; William O’Dell Jr., Lawrence O’Dell, and David O’Dell, four sisters; Wilma (O’Dell) Lillie, Fannie (O’Dell) Pratt, Phyllis (O’Dell) Knutter and Doris O’Dell. Calling hours for Ken will be held at the Mahar Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201 on Saturday, February 10th from 2pm-4pm. A service will be held at the funeral home at 4pm. Immediately following the service, Ken will be brought to the Pownal Fire Department where he will receive his last call. Ken will be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery beside his wife.
