Kenneth F. Linihan Sr., 94, a resident of Equinox Terrace in Manchester Center, VT died Sunday September 19, 2021 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT following a brief illness.
He was born in Shaftsbury, VT March 19, 1927. He was the son of the late Fred D. and Mary (King) Linihan. Ken received his education in the Shaftsbury and North Bennington schools.
A World War II veteran, Ken served in the U.S. Army during that time.
He married the former Ida Balch in Manchester and they were married for 62 years prior to Ida's death on March 20, 2010. He later married the former Rosemary "Rosie" Huckins at Saint Paul's Church on June 22, 2013.
Ken was employed by both the Rutland Railroad and Delaware Hudson Railway for 42 years prior to his retirement. During that time, he served as a Telegrapher, Station Agent, Train Dispatcher and Train Master.
Ken was a devoted parishioner of Saint Paul's Church -Christ Our Savior Parish in Manchester where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6816 in Manchester. He was also a train enthusiast, a ham radio operator and enjoyed playing the violin. Ken enjoyed the company of his two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was also very popular with the young children while serving as a crossing guard in Manchester for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie Linihan of Manchester Center, VT; a daughter and son in law, Mary and Terry Perkins; two grandsons, Brian (Christina) Perkins and Jeffrey (Lyndsie) Perkins, and four great grandchildren all of Springfield, VT. Ken was pre-deceased by a son, Kenneth Linihan Jr. and a brother, Glen Linihan.
The funeral will be held from Saint Paul's Church-Christ our Savior Parish in Manchester on Monday September 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
The burial with military honors will follow at the family lot at Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in Shaftsbury, VT
