Judith Anne Somerville (Lillie)

June 5, 1953 — August 25, 2021

Judith Anne Somerville, 68, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday August 25th 2021. She was born in Bennington, VT on June 5th 1953, the daughter of Ernest and Jean (Wood) Lillie.

Judith received her early education at Barber School before continuing at Pownal Elementary school. She received her high school diploma from MAU in 1971. After graduating from high school, Judith enlisted into the United States Navy. She remained with the Navy until being honorably discharged in 1978.

She worked as a housekeeper at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center before deciding to get her LNA license. Judith then went to work at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation as an LNA. While working at CLR, she also did private care in her free time.

Judith had a particular fondness for animals, specifically elephants and miniature dachshund dogs, and enjoyed to spend her time reading. She was a big fan of the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.

Judith is survived by her son, Matthew and his wife Pamela Somerville, of Searsburg, VT; a grandson, who was her pride and joy, Langden Somerville. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Mason and Lorraine Gates; and a brother Michael (Rosemary) Lillie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judith was predeceased by a son, James Somerville; a brother Ralph Lillie; two brothers in law, A. Daniel Mason and Gordon Gates.

The funeral will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday September 12th at 12:00 with Rev. Kenneth Coondradt officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday, September 12th 2021 from 11am-12pm. A burial will be held at a later date at the family lot in Searsburg, Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations in Judith's name to go to the Vermont Veterans Home or to Second Chance Animal Shelter which may be done through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
