Joyce Ellen Turner, 84 of Bennington, VT, passed away peacefully with her sons by her side, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on February 12, 2025. Joyce was born in Cambridge, New York on March 15, 1940, the daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Wirmusky) Doughtery. She married Duncan M. Turner in September of 1962. Mr. Turner passed away on January 15, 2011.
Joyce earned her bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Albany. She taught math for several years at Molly Stark Elementary School in Bennington. She then worked at UST for a couple of years before moving on to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She worked in the Finance Department/Accounts Receivable at SWVMC for 17 years.
Joyce adored her grandchildren and especially enjoyed going to their sporting events. She enjoyed gardening, walking, Nascar and her coffee shop groups. She was the unofficial Mayor of Bennington.
Joyce is survived by two sons and their wives; Cailean and Christi Turner of Cary, NC and Neal and Megan Turner of Hoosick Falls, NY, a daughter-in-law, Michele Turner of New Smyrna Beach, FL, her grandchildren; Ian, Sarah, Gavin, Neal Thomas, Carly and Myles Turner, a stepbrother, James Carver, her sister-in-law, Susan Howard, and two nephews, AJ DeBell and Kyle Howard. In addition to her husband, Joyce was predeceased by a son, Eric Turner and a stepbrother, Richard Carver.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Joyce later in the spring. The date and time will be announced.
